Anxiety Therapy

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is your brain’s way of reacting to stress and alerting you of potential danger. In a sense it is actually a normal and necessary emotion. Everyone feels anxious now and then, and occasional anxiety is not a “bad thing”. But having an Anxiety Disorder is different.

When someone suffers from an anxiety disorder, their brain is constantly on high alert and mobilized to manage threats (whether internal or external). Common physical manifestations of anxiety include headaches, muscle tension, backaches, lightheadedness, dizziness, tightness in chest, difficulty breathing, etc. People may experience overwhelming worry, ruminating thoughts, carry a sense of fear, feel restless or “on edge”, and become easily irritable. These feelings start to get in the way of everyday life, affecting work, school, and relationships. The good news is that with therapy, you can learn skills and strategies to better cope with your anxiety and decrease the intensity and duration of symptoms. At Parallax, we utilize evidence-based practices to treat anxiety such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.

Anxiety Crisis Post-COVID

If you are anything like me and hear the word COVID, you may tense up or puke a little in your mouth. It was an incredibly trying time for everyone, and no one was prepared to handle a global pandemic.

What started as precautionary restrictions in March 2020 quickly accelerated into a worldwide shutdown leaving people feeling isolated, scared, and anxious. Those who had preexisting anxiety struggled immensely and for some their condition worsened. Those who had never struggled with anxiety started to experience firsthand, the negative impacts of anxiety in their life.

Fast forward three years later, and we are finally closer to the end of the COVID Pandemic. Businesses are back in operation, shutdowns are lifted, and people are free to get back to their “normal lives”. Only, nothing feels “normal” anymore. More and more people are finding it difficult to adjust to the hustle and bustle of what life looked like before COVID. And although some found great relief in returning to their “normal lives”, others have struggled to pick up where life left off in March of 2020. Everything is different, and internally, you may feel different.

If you have found yourself struggling with anxiety and don’t know where to start with managing it all, therapy is a good place to start! We can work together to help you find relief from anxiety, decrease stress levels, and regain control of your life.
